Two lenders can quote you the same boat at wildly different prices — and the "lowest monthly payment" is rarely the cheapest deal. This free boat loan comparison calculator puts up to 3 boat loan offers side-by-side, showing each offer's monthly payment, total interest, lender fees and true total cost, so you can spot the real winner in seconds.

How to Use the Boat Loan Comparison Calculator

  1. Enter the loan amount — the same boat price for every offer, so the comparison is apples-to-apples. (Financing the same boat? Use our boat loan calculator first to sanity-check the payment.)
  2. Enter each offer's APR and term — take the figures straight from the lender's quote or pre-approval letter.
  3. Add lender fees — origination, documentation and title fees, which many "low-rate" offers hide. They count toward the true cost.
  4. Toggle a third offer — comparing three quotes? Switch on the third column.
  5. Read the verdict — the tool flags the lowest monthly payment and the lowest total cost, which are often different offers.

How Comparing Boat Loan Offers Works

Each offer's monthly payment comes from the standard amortization formula: the loan amount, APR and term decide it. Total interest is simply (monthly payment × number of payments) minus the loan amount — and the true cost adds the lender's fees on top. A longer term almost always means a lower payment but more total interest; a lower APR with fees attached can quietly cost more than a slightly higher no-fee rate.

Try the defaults above: Offer A at 7.5% over 12 years costs about $527.61 a month. Offer B at 6.9% over 15 years with $500 in fees drops the payment to about $446.62 — tempting — but its true cost is roughly $80,892 versus Offer A's $75,976. That "cheaper" monthly payment actually costs you nearly $4,916 more. This is exactly the trap the comparison table exposes.

What the Numbers Don't Tell You

The maths is only half the decision. Before you sign, also check: prepayment penalties (some marine lenders charge for early payoff), fixed vs variable rates (a low variable quote can rise), rate-lock expiry, and whether the quote is a firm offer or an estimate. Dealer financing often bundles the loan with the sale — sometimes at a markup — so always compare it against a bank or marine lender quote; our dealer vs bank financing guide shows what to watch for. And a stronger credit score unlocks better quotes across the board — see what credit score you need for a boat loan.

Boat Loan Comparison Calculator FAQs

Should I pick the offer with the lowest monthly payment?

Not automatically. A lower payment from a longer term usually means far more total interest. Compare the true total cost column — and only stretch the term if the lower payment genuinely fits your budget better.

Do lender fees really change the comparison?

Yes. A 0.25% lower APR can be wiped out by a $1,000 origination fee on a mid-size boat loan. The calculator adds fees into the total cost so nothing hides.

How many offers should I compare?

At least two or three: your dealer, a marine-specialist lender, and your own bank or credit union. Marine lenders often beat general banks on boat-specific terms.

Does comparing offers hurt my credit score?

Rate-shopping multiple lenders within a 14–45 day window is generally treated as a single hard inquiry by credit scoring models, so comparing quotes is safe.

Fixed or variable rate — which is better for a boat loan?

Fixed rates dominate boat lending and are easier to compare. If a lender quotes variable, compare using the initial rate but budget for it rising — and read the adjustment caps.

Can I use this to compare a refinance offer against my current loan?

Partly — but our boat refinance calculator is purpose-built for that, with break-even analysis on closing costs.
