Recreational Boat Market Forecast to Near $50 Billion by 2031

The global recreational boat market is set for steady growth over the next six years, with new analysis valuing it at USD 37 billion in 2025 and projecting it to reach USD 49.81 billion by 2031. That represents a compound annual growth rate of 5.08 percent, according to analysis by Arizton reported via PRNewswire and Yahoo Finance.

The numbers behind the forecast

The forecast covers motorboats, cruisers and yachts, personal watercraft, sailboats and pontoon boats across North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. By 2031, the market is expected to reach a volume of 816,200 units.

Growth is being driven by buyers moving up to larger and higher-value boats, wider adoption of advanced propulsion and control systems, deeper integration of navigation and onboard electronics, and stronger demand for premium interiors and multifunctional layouts.

The scale of participation behind those numbers is already large. The US Bureau of Economic Analysis reported boating and fishing at USD 38.4 billion in 2024, making it the largest conventional outdoor recreation activity in the United States. That participation base supports recurring purchases across fishing boats, pontoons, motorboats, personal watercraft and cruisers.

Who leads the market

Major manufacturers named in the analysis include Brunswick Corporation, Groupe Beneteau, Yamaha Motor and Polaris, alongside names such as Ferretti, Sunseeker, Azimut Benetti, Malibu Boats and MasterCraft. Innovation is concentrating on sustainable materials, smart technology and lighter, more durable construction.

Another trend widening the market is access without ownership. Boat-sharing, rental and subscription services are lowering the financial barrier to getting on the water, bringing in buyers and users who might never have considered a traditional purchase.

What this means for UK boat buyers

A growing market is good news for choice, but it also tends to firm up prices. When demand rises across new boats, used values usually follow, which means waiting a year or two can easily cost more than acting now. If you are already leaning toward a purchase, financing a boat now lets you lock in today’s price rather than paying tomorrow’s.

It is also worth watching boat loan interest rates while you compare, and if a nearly-new model catches your eye, our used boat loan calculator will show what the monthly payment looks like.
